Someone stole a cake from the cake contest - who could it be? Twelve animal bakers are potential suspects but Detective Duck uses his deductive reasoning skills to -quack- the case. After all, the thief left hairs behind so the thief wasn't a bird. Follow along as he subtracts each suspect one at a time to reveal just who the culprit was. This clever story will have children of all ages giggling at the puns and the play on words. |
“Detective Duck looked at the scene and said, "One of these twelve bakers stole that cake! But I'll quack this case in no time. I'll find clues that will subtract each suspect until there is just one left."”
Official review by MathsThroughStories.org:
Brian Rock’s ‘The Deductive Detective’ (2013) has a ‘whodunit’ vibe to it, but instead of having a detective working out who the murderer is, Detective Duck uses his deductive skill to work out which of the twelve bakers has stolen Fox’s cake at the cake contest. One by one, potential suspects are cleared. Using subtraction, Detective Duck keeps track of how many potential suspects remain to be interrogated. ‘The Deductive Detective’ is a light-hearted and engaging story which provides a meaningful context for young readers aged 4+ to practise their subtraction skill.
